Chuan Looi

Chuan Looi was first introduced to photography by a childhood friend who gave him a vintage camera. He worked under a commercial photographer and eventually found his true calling when he worked with Hong Kong actress Charlie Yeung, who gave him a junior position in her image consultant company, Starz. From this tenure, Chuan moved to Hong Kong and began assisting the legendary photographer, Wing Shya.

Chuan has since photographed models and celebrities for countless prestigious fashion magazines, including Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Jessica, Nu You, August Man. Esquire & etc. He has built a comprehensive list of celebrity clients over the years – Elle Macpherson, Ai Tominaga, Charlene Choi, Edison Chen, Tavia Yeung, and many more.

Chuan is renowned for his versality and high energy, arresting photographs. Advertising clients are equally in demand for Chuan’s time. He has shot many campaigns including Cerutti, Wrangler Jeans, Carlo Rino, Bonia and special collaboration with Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Bally, Bottega Venetta and etc. An award-winning director of music videos, Chuan Looi has directed a short for local singer Yuheng, which garnered him the best director honour in the annual Malaysia Chinese Music Award in 2008.

His first book, <Before I say “Yes, I do”> was published in 2010 and the subject of this tome is actresss Sinje Lee on a month long trip to the different states of India. His first solo exhibition <LID & LET LIVE> was held in Jan 2014
